Write for us

Cultura is open for article pitches on themes of international travel, culture (including cultural history), and relocation. We welcome guest posts by new and seasoned authors from around the globe. Please refer to the guide below to increase the chance of acceptance of your piece and to minimise delays in publication.

Initial pitches

  • We have two main article formats: feature articles and blog posts. Please look at currently published articles and our guidelines below for insight into our preferred style.
  • We only consider pitches in the first instance – do not send full articles. We would like to hear about your idea first, and get to know a bit about you and any previous writing experience. A maximum of 2-3 short paragraphs should do it. If you have a blog, website or have previously published pieces we’d also love to see a sample or two.
  • We appreciate your interest and efforts in submitting pitches to us, and will aim to contact you within 2 weeks, whether or not we feel your idea could be a fit for us. Occasionally, in busier periods our reply may take a little longer. If you do not hear from us after 3 weeks, fell free to give us a nudge.
  • If your pitch is accepted, submit your article to info@cultura.me.uk and ensure your work is virus / malware free. Please, no AI-constructed content as we require original work for legal and SEO purposes. We perform checks for infected files and AI.
  • Blog articles should normally be between 800 to 1200 words. A header photograph (in landscape rather than portrait orientation) is required, and a maximum of 2 further images.
  • Feature articles: consider these as “editorial” style content. These articles may be used to explore themes in more depth than would be covered in a blog post. Length should be between 1200 and 1800 words. The header photograph should be in landscape rather than portrait orientation.  As rough guide, for the main body of the text, 1 accompanying image per 600-800 words has the best impact.
  • Images: by submitting photographs and other images to Cultura you declare that these have been approved for use. Each image should be accompanied with suggested captioning, and a statement identifying the copyright holder. If you are not the copyright holder, the image must be licensed for use and full details supplied (“fair use” basis will not be accepted). All images should be of high resolution and in jpg format.
  • Author bios: these will appear as an article footer. Keep to a maximum of 60 words. Include your name, background or relevant credentials, and your town / country of residence.
  • Some editing by us may be necessary to ensure that content fits the style of Cultura. In most cases this will be light. Anything more than that, we’ll drop you a note to discuss.

Please note: Cultura is an online magazine in its first year, and relies heavily on affiliation and advertising to cover running costs. At present, articles accepted for publication are not paid. However, writers are welcome to include a backlink in their author bio to their website, blog or social media home (one link only please). Also, all articles are accepted on a non-exclusive basis. That means you will be free to reproduce content you have created for us elsewhere. All we ask is that Cultura Magazine is referenced.
